Sunshine and Vitamin D

“Medical researchers are homing in on a wonder drug that may significantly reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes and many other diseases – sunshine.” Thomas H. Maugh Ii for the Los Angeles Times June 10, 2008
I was reading some articles online today and came across the quote listed above. They go on to list the potential health benefits of sunshine due its content of vitamin D.
Now, there are several ways a person can get vitamin D, but can you think of an easier way to get your vitamins than simply going outdoors?
Oh… and while you’re out there, why not take a walk, ride a bike or play with your kids and get your heart rate up for 20-30 minutes? The combined value of exercise and sunshine is a wonderful benefit and stress reliever.
Just remember that as with anything, moderation is the key. As we enter the spring season, the sun will gain strength so remember to take the appropriate precautions to keep from getting too much of a good thing.
In the timeless lyrics of Katrina and the Waves:
“I’m walkin’ on sunshine, and don’t it feel good!”
